As for the content.... yes, this is "looser" than other translations. I wouldn't use this as a study Bible. However, if you're already so familiar with another version of the Bible and would like to be challenged to think of things a little differently, this is a great option. I've found it refreshing to read through the gospels in particular. I was inspired to look this up after reading Eugene Peterson's memoir "The Pastor" because I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a pastor, teacher, and Christian.

I gave this bible to my granddaughter as a Christmas gift and she was very pleased with the appearance and the way it read.
the Message Bible is easy to read, true to the Greek an Aramaic language and is easily understood. Is a great bible for first time readers.
This Bible is wonderful. Highly recommend it to go along with KJV or NIV! The large print is so much easier to read. Got this one for my Dad, but I think I'm gonna graduate to the large print myself.

I have approximatley 20 Bibles in my library, but this one by Eugene Peterson is the best. It is easy to read (like a novel) and the meanings shine through every word. Deep, yet no compromise on the beauty and accuracy of the scriptures, Peterson has done a magnificent job. It only took him 10 years to write this translation! What dedication and love for God's Word! Amazing!
Reading this Message Bible is like reading a novel written in today's venacular. I especially appreciated the book of Job so far. It is not as beautifully written as some of the other versions of the Bible but it is definitely much easier to understand. The cover and silver page edges make it absolutely beautiful. Good reading before bed for winding down.
The black leather has a rich finish with the silver tooled design on the cover, silver lettering and gilt edge. The Bible has an appearance and feel that is masculine enough to appeal to the men, even though I purchased it for myself, and I love it, too. The print is large and easy to read (11 pt. font), and has a black satin ribbon marker. The price was unbelievably reasonable for the quality!
I enjoy reading the contemporary rendering the Message Bible brings to us. Other versions I use for study, but the Message is how I believe Jesus would say it today, if then was now.
It's hard to shop for a Bible online because of the difficulty getting a feel for the size of the book, the print, etc. I was happy with this. This is not a compact Bible, but it isn't huge, either. The cover is nice-looking, but has a floral pattern so I'd hesitate to order this for a guy. The print is average-size, not hard to read. Pages are thin. Nice-size margins to take notes, scribble questions, etc. This is the only copy of The Message I could find that wasn't either compact (i.e. too tiny to actually use) or a giant hardback (too heavy to carry around, and too stiff to lay open).

However, if you're already so familiar with another version of the Bible and would like to be challenged to think of things a little differently, this is a great option.
